I was tempted to conduct an experiment of “fake caustics” which I first saw on Bertrand’s blog. The results are very fast, it took about 1 minute and 43 seconds to render this image vs 11 min and 20 seconds if using real caustic settings in vray, without losing any quality.

I had to update an older rendering, all I changed were a few pieces of furniture, most of the settings and lighting wasn’t touched, except for the gamma settings. The new rendering came out with a lot more noise this time, and I was curious what caused so much more noise, turns out it was my Gamma setup. As you can see in the images above, the issue is resolved by using Gamma Method B instead of A.
